One, you are having difficulty because you used a safety pin. Second, a safety pin is at a smaller size. Bellybutton piercings and most piercings are pierced at a 14g to prevent rejection. By doing this, you risk scarring, infection, rejection and migration. Just spend the forty dollars and go to a reputable piercer, who is professional and knows what they’re doing. This was a foolish thing to do.

Describe a problem with it that is easily solved by simply LOOKING at it [ex: the post is too big for the hole = it will not fit].
